Immundus et Tenebrous
June 9 – July 3, 2023 • Selina Union Market
Staged in the former Union Arts basement, Immundus et Tenebrous is a journey into identity and forgotten narratives. The artists’ contrasting works both explore themes of culture and hidden self, the unreachable and unalterable past, new beginnings, and home.
Martin Swift's meticulous renderings of neglected dwellings in charcoal and conté are presented as self-portraits; symbolic reflections of culture and the layers that shape identity. The drawings unveil a sense of vulnerability and introspection, potential for renewal, and finding home even amidst darkness.
KeyHan's layered mixed media pieces combine imagery, language, and graphics from both American and Korean cultures; a juxtaposition of cultural references that parallels the artist’s own background and identity. Through their audacious and evocative representations, his pieces playfully subvert convention and challenge societal norms.
Opening Reception: Friday, June 9, 6-9 pm
