Divorce Culture: Winter in America

Divorce Culture (JP Poppe) returns to 411 New York Ave for his first solo exhibition. Formerly a studio tenant at Union Arts, JP will exhibit a series of original paintings and screen prints at Selina from December 17, 2023 to January 16, 2023. Many of these works reflect on how development and gentrification create challenges for both creatives and long term residents. Big, bold paintings created from latex house paint and neon spray paint are featured alongside delicate multi-layer single edition screen prints with a pastel palette. Winter in America provides an ideal vessel for experiencing JPā€™s work: part gallery, part graffiti-covered industrial basement, all on the site of his former studio; a space shuttered when developers purchased the building to open a hotel in the rapidly-gentrifying Union Market area.
